Position Description:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a Climate Analyst to support its efforts in integrating climate forecasts into existin.g crisis analysis products This role involves working within the Global Crisis Analysis team and collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to produce timely climate analyses and reports. The Climate Analyst will play a key role in informing IRC’s programming across different sectors and geographic regions.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review monthly climate forecasts to identify critical time periods for regions where IRC operates.
  • Produce regular analysis reports identifying at-risk country programs.
  • Conduct flood and drought risk analysis in high-risk countries.
  • Engage colleagues to ensure understanding and application of climate analysis in their work.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to build IRC’s expertise in climate risk analysis.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Position Reports To: Management in partnership between the Crisis Data Specialist on the Global Crisis Analysis team and the Anticipatory Action Specialist.
  • Internal Contacts: IRC staff including Regional Emergency Directors, Education Technical Unit teams, and country office staff.
  • External Contacts: Partners such as the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI), Global Flood Awareness System (GLOFAS), and other NGOs involved in anticipatory action.

Minimum Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with climate forecasting tools.
  • Proficiency in GIS tools and analysis (e.g., QGIS).
  • Familiarity with flood forecasting systems (e.g., GLOFAS).
  • Experience with Google Earth Engine for various analyses related to surface water, precipitation, flood, and drought mapping.

Minimum Professional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in partnership management.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office working environment with some international travel.
  • Remote work may be required, and part-time remote employees may need to share workspace.
