The Position:

The Climate Data & Technology Advisor will enhance Mercy Corps’ capacity to integrate high-quality geospatial data and decision-making tools into their programs and operations. This role is critical to scaling up Mercy Corps’ climate programming in alignment with their ambitious global climate commitment.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Develop regional and country strategies to address inequitable access to climate and weather information services.
  • Articulate analytical products supporting climate data application for strategy processes.

Program and Proposal Development:

  • Cultivate donor relationships and partnerships to influence program strategies and design.
  • Research and articulate Mercy Corps’ capacity in using technology and data for climate adaptation and resilience.

Program Quality & Technical Implementation:

  • Identify data sources linking climate data to program design.
  • Collaborate with tech/data teams to pilot data analyses supporting program adaptation.

Learning and Impact:

  • Evaluate program interventions to inform replication and scaling up of effective approaches.
  • Provide training and support for Mercy Corps staff, partners, and others.

Policy, Advocacy, Representation:

  • Represent Mercy Corps at academic events, conferences, and media forums.
  • Identify and nurture strategic partnerships with other organizations.

Organizational Learning:

  • Dedicate 5% of time to learning activities for personal and/or professional growth.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in using climate and environment data for development outcomes.
  • Understanding of the climate and weather services landscape.
  • Experience working on programs improving access to climate information for vulnerable populations.
  • Proficiency in basic geospatial analysis required; advanced skills desirable.
  • Experience in training/capacity-building and fostering collaborative relationships preferred.

Success Factors:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience at the intersection of climate change, humanitarian aid, and development, with proficiency in data and technology. Strong communication skills and a support-oriented approach are essential.
