Job Overview

The Housing Specialist at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is responsible for securing and coordinating safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees. This role also involves providing logistical support and resources to clients experiencing housing insecurity.

Major Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing outreach to landlords and property managers to increase access to housing for refugee families.
  • Coordinate logistics of housing set-ups, including ordering furniture and supplies, arranging deliveries, and facilitating lease signings.
  • Deliver orientations to clients and support pre- and post-arrival activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with recordkeeping requirements.
  • May train and lead the activities of support staff, volunteers, and interns.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience required.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong relationship building, networking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Superb organization, planning, and logistical skills.
  • Ability to regularly lift ~50 lbs.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital tools for research and data entry.

Working Environment

A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area.
