Refugee Casework Intern, Summer 2024

The case management program includes providing core services to new arrivals, and helping clients work towards self-sufficiency during their first five years in the U.S. in the areas of health, employment, finances, education, housing, family, and community. Under the supervision of the Caseworker, the Summer 2024 Resettlement Casework Intern will focus primarily on gaining experience in the field of resettlement, learning and implementing the core services delivered under the U.S. resettlement program, and building the capacity of the current casework team by assisting in the everyday work of caseworkers.

Intensive Case Management Intern, Summer 2024

The Summer 2024 Intensive Case Management (ICM) Intern works closely with the ICM Caseworker to serve clients enrolled in the ICM or Supplemental Case Management (SCM) programs, addressing barriers for refugee and displaced clients who: have severe physical or mental health conditions; are elderly; identify as LGBTQ+; are part of a single-income household; are victims of sexual assault or gender-based violence. The Summer 2024 ICM Intern will be responsible for checking on the well-being of clients, providing comprehensive support when needed, and guiding clients towards self-sufficiency.

Refugee Cultural Orientation Intern, Summer 2024

The Cultural Orientation (CO) program is part of the IRC’s holistic and integrated approach to resettlement. Cultural orientation provides training to newly arrived refugees to foster a better understanding of their new environment and the services available to them in the Louisville area. The Summer 2024 Cultural Orientation Intern works in close coordination with the Resettlement Manager to design, develop, and deliver structured training sessions on topics such as financial management, U.S. laws, housing, transportation, safety, healthcare, and cultural adjustment in order to aid refugees on their journey towards self-sufficiency.

Program Officer, Expanded Placement

The Program Officer, Expanded Placement supports the overall management and implementation of the Remote Placement Community Partner Program: including the recruitment, training, and oversight of community partners, monitoring and documenting the progress and wellbeing of participating Reception and Placement (R&P) clients, and contributing to proposal writing and donor reporting.

The Program Officer, Expanded Placement also supports the IRC’s role as a Private Sponsor Organization (PSO) in the Welcome Corps initiative by providing oversight and technical assistance to private sponsor groups (PSGs) assigned to and/or recruited by the IRC. The Program Officer works closely with the Program Officer, Community Sponsorship Training and the Program Officer, Community Engagement for Vulnerable Populations to mobilize partners and develop resources to meet partner and client needs. This position reports to the Senior Program Officer for Community Sponsorship within the Resettlement, Asylum and Integration (RAI) Department.

Health & Wellness Intern, Summer 2024

The Summer 2024 Health & Wellness Intern works in close coordination with the Health and Wellness Specialist, clients, and local healthcare providers to coordinate and advocate for clients’ healthcare and preventative health needs. The Summer 2024 Health & Wellness Intern will be responsible for checking on the well-being of clients, providing comprehensive support when needed, and guiding clients towards self-sufficiency.

Housing Intern, Summer 2024

IRC Louisville’s Housing Team supports newly arrived refugees by securing short-term and long-term housing; coordinating move-ins, lease-signings, and grocery pickups; securing a culturally appropriate meal to welcome families upon arrival; and providing transportation to clients. The Summer 2024 Housing Intern works closely with the Housing Specialist to ensure clients receive crucial services moving into their first homes in the U.S. seamless and high-quality services will work to expand the capacity of the resettlement team.
