Position Summary:

KIND is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide expert legal services to unaccompanied children in need of representation. This role involves mentoring pro bono attorneys, providing direct legal assistance to clients, supervising non-attorney staff, and fostering partnerships within the legal community. The Staff Attorney will report to the Managing Attorney, Washington, DC – Released.

Essential Functions:

  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to pro bono attorneys handling KIND cases.
  • Direct Representation: Conduct legal research, formulate case strategies, represent clients in immigration proceedings, and file necessary court documents.
  • Supervision: Oversee interns and non-attorney staff, ensuring quality assurance and providing ongoing training and support.
  • Pro Bono Partnerships: Foster relationships with law firms and legal volunteers to expand pro bono initiatives.
  • Training and Development: Assist in developing training resources and present workshops to pro bono attorneys and community groups.
  • Community Engagement: Represent KIND in local coalitions, courts, and agencies to advocate for the rights of unaccompanied children.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • J.D. and admitted to the local state.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Minimum 1 year of immigration law experience, including humanitarian claims.
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable populations.
  • Strong cultural competence and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Salary Range:

$67,440 – $84,300 per year
