About FSCSC:

Fire Safe Council Siskiyou County (FSCSC) is dedicated to wildfire mitigation and community safety. Partnering with various stakeholders, FSCSC executes programs to enhance home protection, defensible space, and educational outreach initiatives across Siskiyou County.

Position Summary:

The Wildfire Mitigation Program Coordinator will lead the execution of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program in collaboration with FSCSC. Responsibilities include coordinating projects, managing stakeholders, conducting educational outreach, and ensuring effective grant management. Additionally, this role may involve deployment as part of CORE’s Emergency Relief Team for disaster operations nationwide.


  • Assist in implementing the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program.
  • Coordinate defensible space initiatives, including volunteer and contractor management.
  • Develop and conduct wildfire mitigation education and outreach programs.
  • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders and community-based organizations.
  • Provide administrative and data support for the grant, ensuring compliance.
  • Create engaging wildfire mitigation educational materials.
  • Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Understand local emergency alert systems and aid in educating others.
  • Be prepared for national deployment to support disaster operations.

Scope and Travel:

  • Reports to Wildfire Mitigation Program Manager.
  • Oversees 1-2 California Emergency Response Corp Fellows (CERC).
  • Significant travel within Siskiyou County and California for meetings and trainings.
  • Potential travel nationwide for disaster operations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, environmental science, forestry, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist or PMP preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language spoken by Siskiyou County communities is a plus.


  • 1-2 years’ experience in disaster preparedness or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of program coordination or project management experience.
  • Experience in community outreach and education.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and volunteer coordination.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to assess wildfire risk and teach others.
  • Proficiency in data management with attention to detail.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local emergency alert systems and fire weather warnings.
  • Familiarity with Siskiyou County and its wildfire risks is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications; knowledge of ESRI GIS tools is a plus.
