Job Overview:

The Reception and Placement Caseworker facilitates refugees’ and immigrants’ resettlement process, ensuring their self-sufficiency. They develop personalized resettlement plans, coordinate services, and monitor progress, operating under supervision with some autonomy.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure smooth resettlement from pre-arrival to acculturation.
  • Provide individual and group orientations, social service referrals, and medical access.
  • Develop resettlement plans and manage client expectations.
  • Distribute direct assistance and track support.
  • Monitor client progress and modify plans as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Travel regularly within the service area.
  • Participate in program meetings and staff development activities.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Reports to: Casework Supervisor
  • Supervises: Interns and Volunteers
  • Internal Contacts: Various IRC departments
  • External Contacts: Sacramento County, community organizations, landlords, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Social Work or related field.
  • 3-4 years of human services experience, preferably with refugee populations.
  • Strong communication and multicultural skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluency in English; bilingual preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Working Environment:

  • Hybrid office/travel environment.
  • Occasional work outside regular hours.
