Job Overview

The Senior Communications Officer plays a pivotal role in elevating the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) thought leadership and solutions, particularly in collaboration with IRC’s Technical Excellence, Research, and Innovation teams, and the Airbel Impact Lab. This position requires close coordination with other External Relations teams.

Major Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with diverse IRC teams to develop and execute communications strategies that enhance awareness of IRC’s impact and its role as a Solutions NGO.
  • Facilitate dynamic communications tactics, including innovative media outreach, op-eds, digital content, and social media engagement.
  • Lead strategic media relations efforts to expand IRC’s media footprint, focusing on advocacy and humanitarian systems change priorities.
  • Produce high-quality written materials, including pitches, op-eds, and talking points, and respond to media queries promptly.
  • Partner with internal and external experts to produce integrated digital content aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to quarterly reports on media coverage and content results, and nurture IRC’s communications network.
  • Strengthen internal systems and processes to achieve communications objectives and uphold IRC’s values.

Key Working Relationships

Position Reports to: Director, Thought Leadership and Solutions Communications

Job Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field, with 5-6 years of professional experience in communications, media, or advocacy, preferably in international affairs or humanitarian sector.
  • Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Flexibility, ability to manage multiple projects, deep understanding of media relations, proficiency in producing dynamic communications materials, creativity in content development, and experience working with executive-level leaders.

Working Environment

Standard office work environment with hybrid working options and the possibility of remote work as agreed with the supervisor.
