Job Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating fundraising activities, focusing on major and planned giving prospects and donors in the East coast region of the United States, particularly the Mid-Atlantic/Washington DC market. This position reports directly to a Senior Director of Development and collaborates closely with the Executive Director managing the East coast team.

Responsibilities

Fundraising & Stewardship

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute strategic engagement and solicitation strategies.
  • Solicit gifts of $10K+ with a focus on gifts of $25k+ to meet fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with Planned Giving colleagues to support the endowment campaign.
  • Steward donor gifts with updates and impact reports.
  • Maintain updated donor records in CARE’s CRM system.

Community Building & Prospecting

  • Support community-building strategies for major donors.
  • Actively engage in prospecting and securing new donors for CARE.
  • Establish partnerships with key advocacy and community-building initiatives.

Internal Collaboration

  • Partner with other CARE teams to identify relationship-building opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional fundraising experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with fundraising concepts including Planned Giving and Major Gifts.
  • Passion for CARE’s mission and values.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and steward relationships effectively.
