Job Overview:

The Grants Manager oversees pre- and post-award activities to secure and manage funding for IRC’s Northern California region. This role involves prospecting, proposal development, grants management, and partnership coordination to ensure compliance with donor requirements and internal processes.

Major Responsibilities:

Development and Grants Management:

  • Prospect and develop funding strategies in coordination with IRC NorCal leadership.
  • Lead proposal development and budgeting processes, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
  • Manage negotiation and agreement stages with donors.
  • Oversee grants opening and closing meetings for funded opportunities.
  • Provide support with reports and serve as the main point of contact for donors.

Partnerships:

  • Provide technical support for partnership grants coordination.
  • Ensure subawardees’ contracts align with program goals and comply with finance regulations.

Supervision & Training:

  • Lead and manage the grants team across Northern California.
  • Provide training and support to ensure staff meet role expectations.
  • Serve as a subject expert in business development processes and workflows.

Systems & Accountability:

  • Maintain proposal calendars, grant tracking, and data reporting.
  • Strengthen go/no-go review processes for grant opportunities.
  • Improve utilization of project management tools for opportunity tracking and reporting.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in nonprofit management, social sciences, or related fields preferred.
  • Certification or continuing education in project management or fundraising is advantageous.

Work Experience:

  • 3+ years of nonprofit or public sector experience in development and grants.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with government funding agencies’ grant processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.
  • Ability to work autonomously within tight deadlines and collaborate effectively in a team.

Working Environment:

  • Standard hybrid office environment with occasional travel to regional sites.
